The 2402 Foundation was founded by journalists Kateryna Sergatskova and Roman Stepanovych in February 2022.

The 2402 Foundation is independent and relies entirely on donations from corporations, trusts, foundations, and individuals. The administrative and financial management of the 2402 Foundation is handled by Daglige Menneskelighid, a non-profit specialized organization in Denmark.
