2402 Foundation is a non-profit initiative that develops safety culture in Ukraine by providing holistic safety trainings to journalists, media managers, documentarians, and civil society actors.
The initiative was launched in the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine in February 2022, in order to help journalists with equipment, first aid kits and knowledge on how to report from the war zones. The founders are award-winning journalists and safety trainers Kateryna Sergatskova and Roman Stepanovych who have a strong expertise and experience in risk assessment and reporting from the frontline and hostile environments.
2402 Foundation is managed by the Denmark-based non-profit organization Daily Humanity (Daglige Menneskelighed).
Our mission is to develop and support an informed society in which everyone is aware of their own safety, knows how to assess risks, navigate in dangerous conditions, and how to prevent death and save lives. We implement the best practices in security and self-defense as the basic knowledge for people in Ukraine and worldwide.
Join us in raising public awareness of safety and self-defense, building a safe, confident and resilient society resistant to threats and stressful situations. To do this, we need your support.

The best training I have ever attended during the war. Professional speakers and trainers. I really liked the way they conveyed complex information in simple words (don’t muddy the waters). Special thanks for providing everything we needed – body armor, goggles, medical equipment. And of course, special thanks to the organizers for such busy days and care.
As a digital journalist, my work doesn’t require trips to combat zones. I have observed others doing it, listened to their stories, and felt a strong desire to experience it myself.
However, during the training, I realized that if it’s challenging for me physically and mentally here, it would be even more difficult on the front line.
Still, I am confident that the knowledge I gained can be applied during a crisis situation in the city. (And since I live in Kharkiv, this is very possible.)
The trainers were exceptionally smart and engaging, providing us with the most crucial information, answering our questions, and keeping the atmosphere light with humor.
Thank you to Foundation 2402 and everyone involved for this awesome and valuable training and special thanks to the instructors who made everything interesting and understandable, answered questions, and provided assistance – you’re the best🔥
It was great meeting new people, and I’m sure our paths will cross again. Take care and keep practicing so you don’t forget the material we covered. 🫂
In late summer 2023, I participated in a training session by the 2402 Foundation. It covered digital security, risk assessment, field medicine, and survival in combat situations. A useful theory + A LOT of practice. Brainstorming and practicing the gained skills right away. All civilians, and especially media professionals, should definitely attend 2402 Foundation’s training at least once. Believe me, it’s really worth your time and effort! I’ve been wanting to attend it since the autumn of 2022, but somehow it didn’t work out… Therefore, one day I simply could not forgive myself for this “absence”.
Thank you 2402 Foundation for the great love you put into organizing the intensive three-day safety training for journalists “Working in War”!
I was looking forward to this training! Lectures on digital security, first aid practice, evacuation of the wounded, basics of interaction with the military, survival in extreme conditions and much more. These are very important knowledge and skills that can save lives in case of an emergency and make traveling to hot spots safer.
I am grateful to the organizers, partners, trainers and all the instructors for their sincere dedication and high level of expertise!
I completed the First Aid Combo at the Foundation. I must note that I have taken other courses, and I can compare.
These courses gave me all the necessary knowledge to provide first aid. The trainers who taught us are, without exaggeration, the best. Interesting presentation of the material, lots of practice, and correction of my mistakes. And after these courses, I felt like Superman, because they really got into each and every detail. They answered all the questions, and treated everything with humor and seriousness.
Extremely practical knowledge and realistic recommendations for risk assessment, along with the most advanced tactical medicine and practice I’ve encountered. These training sessions, with their intricate approach to simulating injuries and challenging conditions, are amazing!
Everything is useful, high quality and convenient from A to Z. Starting with organizational issues and ending with highly qualified instructors! I definitely recommend it, this knowledge is necessary for everyone and can save lives.
